Red Valley Sunset Point – Best Place to End the Day in Cappadocia

Red Valley is the most beautiful and impressive place of Cappadocia. The sharp sandstone rocks reflect a beautiful shade of red as the sun sets into the unique landscape for the end of the day. The views are magical and the colours of the sky after the sun hides behind the horizon are incredible! There are many sunset viewing spots in the region, but trust us: nothing compares to watching the sun setting over this out-of-this-world scenery. The are few ways to arrive to the Red Valley sunset spot in Cappadocia. In this article, we will list all of them, so you can find the one that works best for you.

The sunset spot

The Red Valley sunset spot is not marked on google maps. However, you can find it right here, where the Cafe Sunset is located.

If you zoom-in close (as we did on the map above), you can see that there is a road leading all the way to the view point.

By car

You can get a taxi or drive a car/scooter directly to the sunset spot. It doesn’t require any hiking, there is however a small entrance fee. As it’s very popular thing to do, the parking lot will be very busy and there might be some traffic on the way up. Make sure to come early enough to get the best spot.

By hiking the Meskendir and Red Valley

One of the best things to do in Cappadocia is hiking. The landscape is beautiful, the paths are easy and lead through many incredible sites. You can reach the Red Valley sunset spot, by hiking there from Meskendir Valley. In the guide, we suggest to do this hike in the morning, as it leads further to the Rose Valley. However, if you want you can hike the Meskendir Valley and Red Valley only and skip the Rose Valley.

From there after dusk you can call a taxi, or ask for a ride back to Göreme (like we did).

IMPORTANT

It is not advised to hike in the dark. DO NOT proceed to the Rose Valley hike after sunset.
