Thanks to this we get ideas for our next travels or get to relieve some amazing memories. The Tourist is one of our favourite movies. It’s a perfect balance of action and romance, set in one of the most beautiful cities on Earth- Venice. Together with the main characters played by Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp you’ll discover the stunning venetian canals, streets and majestic hotels. If you’ve already been to Venice, you’ll smile rewatching those incredible places. If not- you’ll look for tickets right away.

2 – Eat, pray, love

A beautiful story of a lost, unhappily married women, who leaves her safe home and sets for a journey to ‘find herself’. The movie is based on a best seller novel written by Elizabeth Gilbert and stars Julia Roberts. Together with the main character you will visit beautiful Italy, India and Bali.

3 – Wild

It’s an empowering true story of one woman’s 1100 mile solo hike undertaken as a way to recover from a recent personal tragedy. This movie is based on an autobiography written by Cheryl Strayed, who can be an inspiration to anyone needing a change in their lives.

4 – The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

In this inspiring story a day-dreamer escapes his anonymous life by setting out on an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined. Walter takes us along his journey though the astonishing landscapes of Greenland, Iceland and further in the world. It’s one of those (27) movies that just inspire you to travel.

5 – Midnight in Paris

This psychological thriller takes you back to the 50’s in Italy. Tom is a young man who thinks that it’s better to live the life of somebody else, rather than being nobody. Unexpected twists and dramas all set in the beautiful scenery of ‘la dolce vita’ era. Not to be missed.

7 – Under the Tuscan Sun

An American writer going through personal dramas, decides to turn her life around. She purchases a villa in a lovely village in Tuscany and moves to Italy. The place needs lots of restoration and not all locals are welcoming, but Frances doesn’t give up the idea of a life under the sun.

8 – Seven Years in Tibet

‘Seven Years in Tibet’ starrying a young Brad Pitt is one of the most beautiful movies which action is set in Nepal and Tibet. It’s an inspiring and true story of Heinrich Harrer, an Austrian mountain climber who became friends with the Dalai Lama at the time of China’s takeover of Tibet.

9 – Lord of the Rings & the Hobbit trilogy

Lord of the Rings is a film series of three epic fantasy adventure films directed by Peter Jackson, based on the novel written by J. R. R. Tolkien. The journey of Frodo and his friends are world famous. However, not everybody knows that most of the scenery in the movies is real and filmed in New Zealand.

It’s a romantic-drama film based on a life-based novel written by Karen Blixen and starring Robert Redford and Meryl Streep. Hoping to forge a better life, Denmark native enters into a marriage of convenience and moves to colonial Kenya, where she has a passionate love affair with a free-spirited big-game hunter. In the 20th-century Africa, the picture is shown in a beautiful manner.

11 – The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Is a 2011 British comedy-drama film. British retirees travel to India to take up residence in what they believe is a newly restored hotel. The movie shows real India with its colours and problems.

12 – The Bucket List

The movie shows a heart warming story of two terminally ill men escaping from a cancer ward and heading off on a road trip with a wish list of to-dos before they die. In the main roles beloved Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.

13 – The Beach

If you are dreaming of a paradise, there is no better movie to watch than The Beach starring Leonardo DiCaprio. In this adventure-drama, a young man travels to Thailand, where with a help of strange map, he finds a solitary beach paradise. It all seems like a tropical bliss, until things take an unexpected turn. Movie The Beach was filmed at the paradisiac islands of Maya Bay in Thailand.

Note : The beach became so popular with tourists after this movie, that people completely trashed and destroyed the area. Maya Bay remains closed until 2021 to heal.

14 – Mamma Mia

For fans of musicals and Greece. Mamma Mia is a lovely, romantic story starring some of our favourites like Meryl Streep or Pierce Brosnan. A young couple prepares for their dream wedding on a beautiful Greek Island. The bride wishes for her father to be there with her. The problem is she doesn’t know which out of 3 men her mother was dating, is her biological father. So she decides to invite all of them.

15 – Slumdog Millionare

A young man takes part of a TV game and is on the way to win a million dollars. We discover how he knows the answers to the questions, in a retrospective of his life in India. We travel with him through rural India and the poorer areas, discovering how the country really looks.

16 – The Hangover II

Next in this 27 movies to inspire you to travel is one of the best comedies. A continuation of the first movie, which was set in Las Vegas. This time a group of friends travel to Thailand for a wedding. The problem happens when the day before the wedding they wake up in Bangkok, not knowing what happened and how they ended up there.

17 – Lost in Translation

The culture of Japan is just different than anywhere else. This movie captures very well the weird feeling one gets when traveling there. Lost in Translation takes you around some of the best spots in Tokyo.

18 – Indiana Jones movies

Without a doubt for anyone liking travels and adventures movies, those are a must. An archeology professor departs in a search of lost artefacts. Nothing brings out the wanderlust more than the exotic sets of an Indiana Jones movie.

It’s a story of two women driving across the American Southwest in search of adventure and friendship while escaping the law. The movie features breathtaking shots of the American West that will make you want to get in your car and see the country.

In this Woody Allen movie, two girlfriends while on a summer holiday in Spain fall in love with the same painter. Things escalate as his crazy ex enters the scene. This movie not only tells an amazing story but shows off the beauty, excitement, and magic of Barcelona.

21 – Spectre (& other James Bond movies)

The movie’s intro scene follows Daniel Craig through a Mexico City Dia de los Muertos parade. Later on the plot takes the agent crosses a multitude of borders, from Austria to Italy to Morocco, as the MI6 agent fights the global criminal organization Spectre.

22 – Mission Impossible movies

Each movie shows off different part of the world. In the latest, ‘Fallout’ Ian Hunt chases terrorists in Paris. The ‘Rogue Nation’ visits in Austria. In the ‘Ghost Protocol’ we will see him running around Dubai and Turkey. ‘Mission Impossible 3’ was filmed in Beijing, China. In ‘Mission Impossible 2’ Ian travels between Rome, Berlin and China. While the first movie set was located in Prague.

The movie tells the story of Rachel Chu, a Chinese-American professor who travels to Singapore to meet her fiancé’s wealthy family. Between of the posh yacht parties and royal weddings, we get glimpses of the city’s greatest landmarks and of paradisiac islands.

One of the best romance travel films ‘Letters to Juliet’ begins in Verona at Shakespeare’s Juliet Balcony, before travelling around Tuscany in search of long lost love.

This movie tells as story of a five-year-old Saroo who became separated from his family in India. Eventually, he is adopted by an Australian family, but tries to trace back his hometown and biological parents. A beautiful film showing two nations and cultures.

26 – Murder Mystery

A Netflix movie for an easy night in. The story shows a married couple who is caught up in a murder investigation on a billionaire’s yacht. The scenery is set in the beautiful city ofMonaco and nearby in Italy.

27 – UP

The only animated movie on this list. However, the story and world created by Pixar are so beautiful, it would be a shame not to put it on our 27 movies to inspire you to travel list.

A 78-year-old balloon salesman is about to fulfill his and his lost wife dream. Tying thousands of balloons to his house, he flies away to the South American wilderness. As he is high in the clouds, he discovers that a little boy named Russell unexpectedly came on a journey with him. It’s a real adventure movie for kids and adults.

    Captain Corelli’s Mandoin should be on this list. Set on the beautiful Greek island of Kefalonia, it certainly inspired me to travel there and neighboring island of Zakynthos.
